Electro-discharge-machinable ceramic parts

Due to high mechanical strength properties, excellent thermal and tribological behaviour, in principle ceramics are excellent for many wear applications. The unique properties of OxiMaTec ceramics are ideally suited for wear parts in injection moulded fibre reinforced plastics. The injection process for these specialty materials is susceptible to abrasion wear in the injection channel of moulds. However, normally these mould components are unique parts and therefore manufacturing these mould components from conventional ceramics is too expensive. EDM process technology is well established. To work in conventional EDM manufacturing technology OxiMaTec has developed an electrically conductive ceramic material. This new material can be machined by EDM-technologies. Wire-EDM can even be made in the traditional water bath. OxiMaTec manufactures standard blocks with a length of 50 mm. For machined parts, we collaborate with the company Bosch+Wagner GmbH, Ditzenbach.
